Clearwell - Port Huron

This emergency design/build project was necessitated by the failure of the base slab of one of the treated water reservoirs at the Lake Huron Water Plant due to artesian water pressure when it was dewatered for maintenance.  The design and construction of a new 14 million gallon capacity Clearwell Reservoir, influent and effluent tunnels, junction chambers and a water quality sampling building had to be completed within a one-year period.

Complete geotechnical services for this project included soils investigation, design of caisson foundations for the new clearwell, a geotechnical instrumentation program to monitor the critical structures and provided forewarning about unanticipated and unacceptable movements, and as-needed geotechnical consulting. Additional services involved materials quality control testing for this project during the construction phase.  These services included monitoring of caisson installation, earthwork density testing and concrete quality control testing.  Construction cost: $38 million.
