DTW Airport - McNamara Terminal

The project consisted of the design and construction of several new structures within the existing Detroit Metropolitan Wayne county airport property, including Passenger Terminal, East and West Concourses, Connecting Terminal, Power Plant, Parking Garage, Pump Station, Fuel Pipelines, Rogell Drive Connector South Access Road, interchanges, taxiways/runways, depressed and elevated roadways and tunnels.

Somat’s general scope of services for this investigation included the following:

  • Drilling and sampling test borings to define the general stratigraphy of the site from the ground surface into the underlying rock foundation.
  • Hydrogeological investigation, installed groundwater monitoring wells to determine general groundwater conditions within the soil and rock formation.
  • Laboratory testing and analyses of soil and rock core samples.
  • Fieldwork in accordance with Wayne County, Metro Airport and FAA regulations.
  • Geotechnical engineering reports.
  • Coordination with Metro Airport utilities departments, other utility agencies, Airside and Landside Operations.

Construction cost: Over $1 billion.
